Who will be
watching my dog while at daycare?
All
daycare staff members are experienced trainers who
either are Certified Professional
Dog Trainers (CPDT-KA) or are
working toward meeting the requirements to take their
certification exam. As of March 2010
we have 4 CPDT-KA's
on staff with two staff members preparing for the
certification exam.
Is the daycare staff in the room with the dogs or are
the dogs monitored by video monitoring cameras?
We do
not rely on video cameras as our daycare staff is always
with the dogs in the room. We don’t simply watch the
dogs play; we are an integral part of the play sessions
as we work to direct play in structured ways that
encourages fluent and appropriate canine communication
skills. Dogs in our care are never left unsupervised.
Has there ever been a dog hurt while at daycare?
While
dogs occasionally experience minor bumps, bruises and
scratches from normal canine play, we are proud to say
that we have never had any injuries that required
veterinary care. All our staff members are Pet First Aid
& CPR Certified. If there were to be an incident
requiring immediate veterinary care we have several
veterinarians available to us within minutes of the
facility.
How big is
the daycare playroom?
Purrfect Paws is a 2500 sq. ft. indoor facility with an
additional 500 sq. ft. outdoor, fenced area.
Can the dogs go outside?
We do
have a fenced, outdoor area that is available to the
dogs for elimination at any time during their stay with
us. During the warmer and drier weather dogs are allowed
additional playtime outside.
Is your facility climate controlled?
Yes.
We have a sufficient HVAC system that allows for heating
in cooler months and air conditioning in warmer months.
What kind of flooring do you have in the playroom?
Our
flooring is a 4 out of 5 virgin rubber matting. This
flooring provides for “give” that is healthier for your
dog’s joints during play. It is also easy to disinfect
which is done on a daily basis.
I have a shy dog, will she fit into daycare?
As all
our staff has above-average training in dog body
language and communication, we are aware at all times of
dogs who may be more shy and need additional time to
adjust to the group. Every dog is an individual and we
accommodate their unique needs to the best of our
ability.
My dog
needs to take a prescription medication, can I bring
that with him?
If
necessary, we can administer medications to dogs while
in our care. We require owners to provide us with the
medication at each visit with specific instructions for
delivery of the medication.
What
if my dog gets tired?
Crates
are provided for any dog that needs to rest at any point
in their day. They may also rest anywhere in the play
area if they prefer to stay with their friends while
relaxing. A mandatory rest period is enforced from 12:00
– 1:00 PM to allow dogs to eat lunch (if lunch was
provided by their owners at drop off that day) and also
provides a “down time” for them. Research shows that
dogs who rest for an average of 17 hours per day show
the least damage from daily stressors. We try to help
your dogs get as close to “no stress” as possible!
How long
will my dog be in a crate?
Dogs
are crated and/or x-penned during early morning
drop-off, lunch and evening pick-ups. Not only
does this decrease stress for the dogs, but it also is
safer for the dogs and humans at Purrfect Paws.
Are there other services my dog can enjoy while at
daycare?
We can
provide, nail trims ($10 per dog) and ear cleaning ($10
per dog). If you have a specific request, just ask and
we’ll work with you to meet your dog’s needs.
How do I
enroll my dog in daycare?
We
require that current vaccination records be on file with
us along with a Daycare Enrollment/Application Form. We
also require your dog's attendance at a playgroup
session to ensure that they will be safe and have
appropriate canine social skills to attend daycare. Once
they have passed the playgroup evaluation they may
attend daycare!
Is it possible for me to see the facility before I make
a reservation?
Facility tours are available by appointment only. In
order to maintain a stable and stress-free environment
for daycare attendees, we cannot give tours during
playtime. We recommend that you leave your dog at home
during your tour. You may also view our facility and
meet our staff by attending a playgroup with your dog.
How do
I make a reservation for daycare?
Standing
reservations are available for dogs who attend daycare
on a regular basis each week. If you prefer to make
reservations as needed, we require that your either
email us
at
behavior@purrfectpawsabc.com
(This
e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you
need JavaScript enabled to view it
) or call (465-6555) no later than 6 PM the
day prior to your dog's visit. If you leave a message
you may consider the reservation confirmed unless we
contact you prior to your dog's visit.
How do we know if there are available spots for daycare
on any particular day??
We limit
our daily reservations to 30 dogs per day. If we are
full on any particular day we will change our
voice mail to indicate which day is full. We can
put dogs on a wait list with no guarantees that a spot
will open up. We will call you as soon as possible if
your dog is on the wait list and a spot opens up.
If you
still have questions, please feel free to contact us and
we will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you
may have. 716-465-6555 |
